A problem that needs solving immediately
Before we go to res-gestae, news about the first Chennai Photo Workshop will follow soon.
Now, to the nub, the subject even. The problem that needs an immediate solution.
Is Tenali Ramalinga an Andhraite or Madrasi?
Nope, that is not my question. Not in a million years will I ever wake up to a problem of such magnitude. Never in eternity will I ever, ever realise the importance of Tenali Ramalinga’s pedigree and ancestry and ethnicity. I am muchly grateful to Reach Out Hyderabad, Mrs. Srilekha and Mr. Vijay Beerwal for opening my eyes and my soul to such a grave transgression.
Hyderabad: What is the actual name of the famous poet Tenali Ramalinga of The Vijayanagara Empire. Is he Tenali Ramalinga or Tenali Raman? You are bound to get this doubt, if you have ever watched the promos of the 26 episode series of half-hour duration of the serial titled ‘The Adventure of Tenali Raman’, which is produced by Trivandrum based Toonz Animation Studios. The programme according to promos on the channel has been on air on Cartoon Network, the nation’s foremost children’s channel from June 14.No body seem to have noticed this fax pass until recently. But Mrs. Srilekha, a housewife at Saroornagar surprised to watch the promo recently and got confused herself. Though she was doubly sure Tenali Ramalinga who was knows as Vikatakavi belonged to a place called Tenali in Andhra Pradesh and that he struck as his surname. Later she found that every Telugu speaking person is proud of him. And she wondered how the famous television network belonged to Turner Entertainment Networks could distort or cut short his name and changed to Raman, which can be a Tamilian or Malayali name.
I call for a nation wide strike to protest this injustice to Andhra pride, and demand the resignation of the Information and Broadcast minister, the Censor board and a judicial probe into the Toonz Animation company’s nefarious activities. The government should do something about this soon.
The Viva La Vida reading
It’s Frida’s 101st birthday. She was into kinky, macabre stuff. And Salma was really good in that movie. So.

Calling production houses
Hello folks,
This is perhaps one of the few(est) times I’ve asked a favour of my blog’s readers. So I shall be muchly grateful if you can help me. Do any of you know productions houses/producers? Will said production house/producer have contacts at or will be able to get into Discovery Travel & Living channel? Better still, (faint though the chance appears to be) are any of my readers working at Discovery Travel & Living?
If any of the above is true, can we meet? I have a few show ideas that will be right up your street.
Sydney Fiasco – Indian Media going overboard
There is no doubt that it was really sad to watch India lose a match which they could have atleast drawn (realistically speaking, had all umpiring decisions been correct, India could have actually won the match). Then the racism row, something that should have not happened in the first place. Harbhajan was handed a 3 match ban instantaneously (quite amazing, super quick judgement – Saudi style) Be that as it may, on one hand things were already quite heated up in Sydney.
On the other hand, the Indian media seemed to add more fuel to fire. The effect to this “adding fuel to fire” was quite visible when we witnessed one of India’s most famous and familiar way of protest – “burning of effigies“. The media was also prompt in reporting as to how Harbhajan’s mom felt her son could never be wrong (it reminds me of the then famous ‘Sehwag ki Maa’ days) and how a conspiracy seems to have been hatched against her son. Moreover, never mind the official confirmation from ICC or the BCCI, the media had also started speculating the fate of the tour indicating that the tour might be well called off.
As if the contributions of the print media was not enough, the visual media lead by CNN-IBN (one disgusting news channel) and TIMES NOW (yuk, english counterparts of Stars News in terms of content) were quite irrepressible and tried their best to make the discussions with so called “experts” on the topic more glamorous. Would you believe it, the expert opinions of Irrrrfan Khan (I donno how many R’s his numerologist had recommended) and Mandira Bedi (after whom the experience of watching cricket was never the same again) on behalf of bollywood was also taken and quoted. I really donno what bollywood has got to do with this. Tomorrow a Rakhi Sawant would come, sit in the commentary box and tell us how Sachin should be playing his sweep shots or how Saurav should play his cover drives. Quite disgusting. And, NDTV, not to be left behind, are running a “India, Come Back” campaign on their website. Come’on NDTV, never expected this from you.
I wonder where the Indian media wants to take us at the end of the day. Biased views and irrational speculations guided by a commercial motive is the essense of todays media. Cricket is a sport which I have followed all through my life so passionately and it is quite disgusting and disappointing to hear actors like Irrfan Khan or Mandira Bedi talk about cricket.
Not surprisingly Mike Coward in his article quite aptly termed the Indian media as a partisan and ropeable.
Blatant rip off
I bought a rain-coat/windcheater yesterday. I’m so looking forward to using it for the first time in my life. I wish it rained more often so I could get more practice wearing the rain coat.
Due apologies to Kiruba, for none can better a master at his game
