The seventh Chennai Photowalk – photos and follow-up

Kapaleeswarar Temple Silhouette—from Kunal Daswani

Yes, the rumours are true. We did walk, on the 11th of May. And yes, I did gloat. For I realise I have great power over you ordinary mortals. I asked for people to come at 6 AM on a Sunday and people did come. At 5:45, at 5:50, at 6 and 6:15.

37 people in all walked on the 7th Chennai Photowalk and whatay fun we had. Photographic evidence follows.

  1. What’s with the fascination for locks? I loved the house with the doorways..

  2. Lekhni: Locks are good, and interesting and fun. The first photo I took on the first photowalk was that of a lock.

Also, Subash and I were working on a locks mini series.

  3. All the photos were great! The colors on cycle rickshaw (or as they call it cykil ritchaw) photo looks very retro…. nice!

  4. Thanks PTC. Yeah, I like the cycle rickshaw ones too.

  5. You are all taking thousands of great photos during the Chennai photo walks. Are you guys geo-tagging it by any chance? Usually takes just one person to carry a gps receiver in his/her bag which will log the track and everybody can sync their photos later on with that log. There are free open source softwares to which make use of the time data in the photos (in exif) and the geo tracks to sync both of them (for example : http://geotag.sourceforge.net/)

probably those of us who could not join the real walk could walk it thro on the google maps or google earth .

  6. Great point, PTC.
I do geotag my photos, but with the help of the map feature in flickr’s organizr. It works, but not perhaps to the best possible extent.
I think I will buy a GPS receiver soon.

  7. I wish I was there…
    Beautiful photographs…

  8. You should come, Karthi. When, then, is the question.

  9. Its me again. I thought I should have set an example before suggesting something. So I took my GPS along with me and shot some photos with my mobile phone yesterday and I geosynced them and have listed all the steps invloved in geosyncin in my blog along with screen captures and stuff. check out: http://ptcbus.blogspot.com/2008/05/geo-tagging.html

  10. 8th Chennai Photowalk? Please include me in your mailing list.

  11. ptcbus: Will check it out. Thank you!

    SethuS: Sure thing.

  12. Well, I have to say people are tenacious (if they actually are there by 6:00 AM).
That said, do you not have issues when there are like 30 to 40 people with cameras walking down Chennai roads, am unable to see our constable annas being ok with that :)

  13. Constable annas and mamas can eat cake, is my general attitude on the days of the photowalk. On other days, I buy them cake. So I can afford to throw a little attitude.

  14. Great photos. I also like locks / doors / windows. That view into a house through doorway after doorway was wonderful.

  15. Thank you, Nancy. I love the photo of the houses and its doorways too.

You know, you should come for a walk too.

  16. Seems to have a very productive walk :)
    Lotsa brilliant pictures

  17. Rahul: Yes. And some of those brilliant photos are yours.

    Gilli/Prakash: Thanks ba

    Tushar: Soon.

  18. Super Walk. Super Talk. Enjoyed a Lot. Cheers Mate

  19. Not a regular reader, somehow ended up here from flickr..

A couple of questions for you: – Are the walks always on a Sunday?
Any chance the next chennai photowalk is on Sun Jun 22nd?

Reason I ask is that I’m coming over Chennai from England for a week (20th-29th) and would love to participate..

  20. Arvind:
    Yup!

Aparna: Yes, the Photowalks are always on a Sunday. The story so far is, one photowalk a month, on the 2nd Sunday of every month.
This month (May 2008) I organised two walks because one bunch of friends were not in Madras on the day of the “official” walk.

I haven’t yet finalised the date for the June walk – I might have some travel to catch up with on the second Sunday (8th June) so I might keep it on the 1st, the 15th or the 22nd. I’ll let you know as soon as, um, I know.

  21. Heylooo CCG…Wonderful to meet ya here…..Please include me in your mail list for the June walk :)

I read Madras Musing on Sunday and promised myself that I would google info about you guys when I hit office. I know I have delayed this for four days. But am glad I caught glimpse of the walk’s works today. Firstly, its great to know something so interesting is happening in Chennai. Secondly, am even more excited to know that I can be part of it.

I look forward to be part of you guys

    Cheers :)

  22. And….I loved the shot of the smiling child with her paati. Really cute and the diya pottery work shot…..awesome color contrasting and focus yaar…and the dogs kissin – nice timing…and tush’s shot…the flourescent green is just too good…i am such an amateur…i hope to take atleast one shot like the ones above /) /)

  23. Hey, I’d prefer a walk on the 22nd, too, or any day after the 20th. By that time, my exams would be over.

  24. if you can let me know about the next event i will be most happy- to join and shoot

  25. Lovely pics. Are these walks open to any one who is interested?

  26. hey,
great to see such an initiative in madras. recently got back to my native chennai after years of being away.. and would love to join!.. i’m a graphic designer, not a photographer.. hope it doesnt matter?..

  27. Great stuff man.. Must have been a great shoot.. :)
    Keep ‘em coming :)
