I am thinking.

The whole Cold War. Pales in comparison to the Iyer, Iyengar conflict. Perhaps, the cold war itself derived its inspiration from here.

Is the Iyer-Iyengar conflict bigger than the Vadakalai/Thenkalai conflict? :)

  2. Sleepyface Says:

    Conflict = Cold War?

  3. K.Shyam Says:

Sandegamae vendam-da ambi. Yaanai-la arambicha sanda nayabagam irukono nokku ? ;-)
    K.Shyam

  4. vatsan Says:

No ferrari it isnt bigger than vadagalai-thengalai conflict.

Ravages has just displayed his ignorance of the iyengars.

  5. vatsan Says:

and shyam the yaanai sandai (shown in saami) is between the vadagalai-thengalai’s, its over which type of namam to put for yanai, U or Y. if im not wrong its in some temple in kanchipuram.

Sigh you iyers are so ignorant about the world beyond the iyers!!

  6. Chandrachoodan Gopalakrishnan Says:

Ferrari: Vadakalai Thenkalai conflict different from Iyer Iynegar conflict. V/T is more of RC vs. Protestant conflict. Not Capitalism vs. Communism.

Sleepyface: Somewhere between conflict and cold war.

K.Shyam: Enakku nyabagam iruko illayo, mathavalukku irukkum

Vatsan: I haven’t displayed my ignorance. Not yet anyway. As I mentioned to Ferrari, VK vs. TK is the same as RC vs. Protestant. A matter of details within a broad framework. Iyer vs. Iyengar is a whole school of thought, different ways of life, love and money.
    So.

  7. Hawkeye Says:

i agree with vatsan. chandru you are over estimating the iyer/iyengar conflict. you have no idea what you are talking about when you say “A matter of details within a broad framework.” Like goundan says “enna pazhatha avalavu kevalama pesitte. pazham thaanda mukkiyam. oru pazhathaala paramasivan kudumbam paathiya pirinju onnu pazhanikku poydichu”

similarly those 18 points of conflict have divided close to 70-75 temples into near war mode. i have never seen road’la adithadi in any iyer/iyengar conflict.

    ‘whole school of thought’ seri.

“different ways of life, love and money.” – itha generalize panrathu kashtam. are you talking about ‘smarthas are kanjam’ – ‘thimiru pidicha iyengar’ kind of sterotyping. that also goes on between pillais gounders and maravars. very common.

(i hope your kundakka mandakka web page lets my comment go through)

  8. Lalita Says:

Hmm, I wonder if I should revive the vaideeki and niyogi divide among Telugu Brahmins. My classmates were all Iyengar and our next-door neighbours, Iyer. You have different idioms and quirks of speech, to say the least, and it is very entertaining to an outsider. :)

  9. Chandrachoodan Gopalakrishnan Says:

Hawkeye: Your comment further strengthens my stand. See, I am not claiming that the VK/TK conflict is mild compared to the Ir/Ingr one. All I am saying is, the Iyers are the capitalist to the Iyengar’s communist. :P

    Lalita: You should.

  10. Hawkeye Says:

    chandrudu,

oh! now i see where you are coming from. i am totally pul-arichified. the divisive lines are also strongly along thenkalai = communist ; vadakalai = capitalist.

i would like to patha-vechufy that classifying all iyers as ‘captalistu’ is konjam over. why don’t you and vatsan fight on the road during photowalk 2.0 and put that video in youtube. jagadguru will shout at iyer/iyengar/captalist/right/left/ center/ top /bottom. Someone else will do a podcast.

    then ill believe this post.

Hawkeye: Patha vachutaye, haweye. Sari, nee sollita no appeal. I, Vatsan next walk, one fight. One youtube video, one kalavaram.
