Travel and photography in India

Dear foreign travellers/photographers,

Rajasthan is not India. Rajasthan is just 1/28th of India.

Rant: Let nouns be nouns. Verbs, adverbs and adjectives too

Dear people who use words indiscriminately,

Please do not coin words because your vocabulary fails you. There is language enough. Connect is a verb. Do not use it as a noun. There is a word, connection. ‘Operationalise’ is stupid whether you spell it with an ess or a zed.

There is a word, terror; there is a word, terrify. Wherefore terrorise (with an ess or a zed)?

Thank you.

Moser Baer Home entertainment

Dear Moser Baer,

When somebody orders CDs from your website, please ensure the order is processed as soon as possible. Waiting 10-12 days for the order to be processed, 7 days for my DVDs to be shipped, and 36 hours of tension and wringing hands are unacceptable.

Also, when somebody calls your Delhi office, you don’t put the caller on hold and laugh in the background. It, at the very least, puts people off. Also, when the said caller then tries to tell your phone operator the same thing, and the phone operator acts all haughty and sarcastic, you are in for some lost business. You can be sure this is the last time I (and if I have some kind of audience, they) will buy CDs from your website, or heck, anything from Moser Baer.

Buy my photographs at Imagekind.com

Folks,

I’ve been toying with this idea for a while now. The only way to decide if I am good at something or suck real bad is to see if I can make money off it. So, here’s the plunge. I’ve put up some of my photographs (from my flickr stream) on Imagekind. Imagekind is a service that allows artists to sell their work online. How it works is simple. It lets you upload stuff to their website, arrange your artwork in a gallery, specify how you’d like your art to be framed and printed. And then hope people wander (mistakenly or otherwise) into your gallery and buy your art.

I’ve done that, and now hope you will wander in and do the needful. I am not asking that you buy what I’ve got to sell. I am asking that you take a look at what I have on sale, and if you like something, maybe you will buy it. At the very least, you will form an opinion of my work, and (hopefully) tell me what you think.

In short, I am asking that we – teh buyer and the seller – meet at a place and negotiate and trade.
To make it easier for you, I’m including a button in this post. It links to one photo that I am immensely proud of. Clicking on the button will take you to the photo in my gallery and from there to the rest of my work.

I shall also put two more buttons to my sidebar (which, cluttered as it is, could do with some colour and visual relief)
After that, I am afraid, it is up to you.

The Button:

The Photo collective, BarCamp Bangalore 5

People throw up photos for review by the audience. Good idea. Only, um, throw-back to old flickr groups I admin-ned/were a big part of.

Some dude here giving random, totally clueless comments. Just like on flickr. Wow!

At BarCamp Bangalore 5

I’m going to “head” a “collective” on conversation online, word-of-mouth advertising and stuff. (Those quote-marks are intended)

Odds, ends and a photograph.

It’s time the world ditched the archaic, propah spelling “sir” and embraced Saar. No more Sir. C.V. Raman. Or even Sir. Elton John. We need Saar Raman, Saar Kumaran and their tribe.

People in Madras/Chennai. Would you please stop using the roads I use. You see, I need to get to where I am going in a hurry and I can’t do that with all you Indicas, Benzes, Taveras and Logans cramping my style.
