Selective Amnesia There was a point to this. But I forgot.

All you faacking pigs out there, use a condom, please!

Given a little time, I might just be able to top this ad. I am sure though, this ad sold enough condoms to pay for itself. And even turn a profit.

Twitter next candidate for multi-billion dollar buy-out?

In my mind, there’s no question about it. Twitter’s perfect in every way for a big acquisition. The question is, when? And, who? And, er, even how much? This guy, Ev, has a track-record you see. He’ll have to do this, or he would never be able to start the next big thing on the net.

Bets invited.

An insight on India’s many failures

Ever complained the Indian government isn’t doing something right? That the government is ineffective? That roads are bad, prices high? Complained the government is corrupt? Complained that you have to do everything yourself? Complained that you are forced to cope for yourself?

There’s a reason. It’s to teach you (and me, and everybody else) that the government need not do these, need not feed you, clothe you, house you. You need to do everything for yourself. You need to cope for yourself.

The Indian government, IMO, is the most effective – for it’s helping you learn that you don’t need a government at all.

Facebook, vampires, Kate Beckinsale and other fundaes

So, on facebook, applications are big. One ofwhich is the ‘Vampires’ application, and another is the ‘Warewolfs’. (And then there are ‘Zombies’.) I’ve already been turned into a vampire by a friend. Now, somebody wants to turn me into a warewolf. Correct me if I am wrong, but unless you are a direct descendant of Corvinus, you can’t be both a vampire and a warewolf, right? Isn’t that what the great movie Underworld taught us? Now, as far as I know (I have spent a little time researching my family tree) I have no ancestor named Corvinus. So, and I am very sorry about it, my dear friends on facebook, I’ll have to evade you. If it is any consolation, I used to like wolves better than bats.

Tamil to English translation, BETA

ஒரு வண்ணத்துப் பூச்சி எந்தன் வழி தேடி வந்தது
அதன் வண்ணங்கள் மட்டும் இங்கு விரலோடு உள்ளது

Ammani feels Chenthil’s translation of the above lines are not adequate/crisp enough. Let me give it a shot…

A butterfly once came my way,
Alas, only traces of colours on my fingers stay.

The next few lines of this song are pretty good too: I touched fire. Traded (opened a store) on a deserted island. Built a house of sand

Such acts of brilliant futility.

(If you liked this, you might want to read some of my other translations: (Bharathi’s poems) 1, 2, 3)

The anti-tamil bias, hitherto hidden, has been revealed

We are talking of the Desipundit. I consider it a personal failing that I have been unable to discover their very latent anti-Tamil bias. Thankfully, AntiFalstaffSlave has called them on it, in this comment:

i also think you guys have something against a set of bloggers that i read. they have big independent readerships but still many hat tips i have given for anoosrini, anti, chenthil, adisht, chandrachoodan, ravages, hawkeye, ammani, have been ignored.

i dont know what your history is with these guys, maybe even those bloggers dont care about this, but it makes people like me who aren’t ‘in the know’ angry. as if the blogs i follow isnt desipundit worthy enough. i am thinking of a link that was discussing desipundit biases but can find it.

“Heh”, you exclaim. “Where is the anti-tamil bias pointed out in the comment?”, you ask. Look at the names AntiFalstaffSlave (AFS) mentions. Without exception, they are all Tamil.

So, first, my thanks to AFS for throwing light on an issue that needs to have light thrown at. Now, AFS is also right in saying that the bloggers don’t care about “this”. At least, I don’t. I used to. Not anymore. For, under the Jagadguru’s tutelage, I’ve learnt to go beyond these petty, trivial issues and embrace the wholeness, the bigness, the non-free-market-fundamentalist-ness that is the human nature.

Culinary escapades

Word of advice, dear people. If you have just ordered a lasagna, don’t expect or answer a phone call that will keep you away from said lasagna for 30 minutes. Frozen tomato/Parmesan cheese goo – not good.
