Why the great wall of China
Amit writes about China’s beer consumption. And says,
No wonder they have a great wall there. It’s to stop people from accidentally staggering out of the country and not finding their way back.
Amit displays his utter lack of knowledge and experience with this post. The reason why the wall was built, and I base this on a deep understanding of human nature, was for all those beer-drinkers to take a leak. Quite obviously, a regular wall wouldn’t suffice
How?
via PutVote comes this incredible piece of news.
Apparently, a 79 year old man raped an 84 year old woman.
How?
For fugsake! How? I will ask the obvious question. How did the man get it up?
Second
The news story says, when the alleged rape happened, there was no one about in the woman’s house. And when she was found, she was in a pool of blood. I am assuming, she wasn’t in a state to point fingers at anybody, if she was 84 and in a pool of blood.
So, the second question is—how did the assume that the 79 year old codger raped her? Can someone tell me?
It’s not what it seems like
When the latest Bond released, I was much hesitant in seeing it. For me, Bond was Pierce Brosnan. He had cool. He had something very few had. Plus, I liked him in Remington Steele. Besides, the trailers made Daniel Craig look like a wuss. So, as I said, I wasn’t much too keen on the latest Bond.
But I finally did go. And liked the movie immensely. Daniel Craig, yes, he did look like a wussy. But a wussy who could kick ass. The movie was fun.
What does it say?
Meanwhile, there was much e-mail talking and discussion recently among us wicked Cartelians. The camp was divided – one of us committed a grave mistake. Inviting a female, a young student female at that, to the group. Can you imagine? What a sacrilegious thought! That, deep, dark, evil brotherhood of men who’d sold their souls to the devil, and what’s more, flaunted it! This (bleeding) heartless society was thinking of allowing a woman to enter its fold.
So, as I said, the camp was divided. One faction was imagining the consequences. Pink ribbons in the cartel headquarters, flowers and festoons, white linen on the conference table. Ugh! And ewwww! E-mail discussions filled with ‘awwww’ and ‘cho chweeet’ and other unmentionable words. And, more than anything else, not being able to say ‘fuck’ or even ‘shit’ in our weekly “STATUS ON WORLD DOMINATION” meetings.
The other camp was ready to lay out the redpink carpet, and even had dressed up for the occasion.
Somehow, the act was done. The Cartel had its first woman member. Admittedly, things haven’t been as bad as the naysayers thought it would be. Though it has been only a couple of days since Shruti was made Cartelian, she’s been, to employ a phrase, one of the boys. True, she hasn’t yet said ‘fuck’, but we have no doubt about her commitment to our ideals.
In short, things aren’t what they seemed like. Daniel Craig and Shruti.
Oh, BTW, with this new member in, and with our old team back in full action, the Libertarian stranglehold on Blogospheric conversation should be almost complete.
Kurukshetra, 2006
Shekar points me to Kurukshetra, the technical festival of the College of Engineering, Guindy. (For those not in the know, College of Engineering, Guindy is the nucleus around which Anna University is built. The CEG was probably the first technical education institute set up in India. It used to be the Madras School of Survey – if I remember my Muthiah correctly)
Anyway, Kurukshetra is a battle of wits, so says Shekar. For in this event, technically minded students can take part in many events, and plebeians like me can watch from the sidelines. There’s apparently a 9 lakh rupee purse to be won. Dayumn!
Anyway, if you are reading this, (highly unlikely) and are a student of the Anna University or an engineering/technical student and haven’t yet heard of Kurukshetra (even unlikely-er), go here.
Time’s Best photos of 2006
A moderate to decent collection of photos, this. I particularly like the one in which two people scale the border-fence in Arizona.
