A key, because it exists, must belong to someone. It exists, rather has been made to exist, for two very important purposes –

1. To open a lock. A lock has been made to exist to keep something secure. And when there is something that needs to be kept secure, it must belong to someone who cares about it


2. To do the task of an earbud when one doesn’t exist

Now, between 1) & 2) point 2) is more conclusive in proving that a key belongs to someone. For you can have something precious when no one exists. But you cannot have an ear to bud without having someone who has a ear, and someone who has authority to earbud the said ear.
