What blogging is. And isn’t.
So, I get asked this question. And, depending on who asks, (hot chick, NDTV, uncles, friends, dimwits from 1970) I answer differently.
- It’s a tool
- It’s social networking
- It’s fun
- It’s serious
- It’s change
- It’s citizen journalism
- It’s where I write for myself
- It’s where I write for my special audience
- It’s where I use the word fuck without a second thought
- It’s where I act pompous
- It’s where I don’t act pompous
- It’s the future
- It’s knowledge management
- It’s news
- It’s the future of news
- It’s an evolved, niche media
But what I leave out is: It’s all of the above. It’s none of the above.. Blogging is just blogging, for fuck’s sake. Don’t read too much into it. Or too little.

I am asked this practically every week.
Friend introducing me to his/her girlfriend/boyfriend, “This is Mohanty. He… err… blogs. Do you know what a blog is?”
