Selective Amnesia There was a point to this. But I forgot.

Some books are eminently readable in the loo. Some just aren’t.

Voting putting

Update: PutVote.com is the link to remember, dear folks.

A long time ago, I mentioned something about ‘the best, the not-so-good and the downright bad of the blogosphere’.

Here it is – India Select - A digg-like community bookmarking thingamjig for the Indian Blogosphere.

Kingsley, who pretty much built this thing from scratch, has more details.

I have been having considerable difficulty keeping up with the Indian blogosphere over the last couple of years. The reason is because, the number of bloggers is booming and there are a lot of great blogs out there. DesiPundit is great, but even a team of editors can only do so much. I and Chandru talked about this and we’ve decided to do something about it. Behold:

india, select!

As the website so clearly explains, “You Putting Vote, Computer Selecting!” or ” In india, select!, you and all of the people putting vote. Then computer send good vote to first page. OK?” I really can’t do any better than that.

Now, it’s just been set up. So expect the two of us to be tweaking it all the time, even ignoring our official work and our social lives. That’s right, that’s how much we both feel about the ‘desi-blogosphere’
Meanwhile, we’ll also be getting a much simple, much more relevant a domain. But till then, bookmark away, and vote.

The Scian Sci-Fi contest

We’re all, at the Scian, still waiting for entries to the Scian Sci-fi contest. All you lazy bones out there, who want to write, and can pick up your pen, or your keyboard and get cracking.

Ban on blog: How so mature

The enemy points a huge fucking gun at ya. You take out your tiny pistol, cock it up real quick, and shoot yourself in the foot. Great going, whoever it is. (G O I, ISPs et.al)

Words vs Pictures

If a is greater than b, but b destroys a, a cannot be greater than b

If a picture is greater than words, but you claim words destroyed the picture, the picture cannot be greater than a word.

If civilisations were better off with only pictures, how come none of them have survived to this day?

As people progress, as they evolve, they go from being visual creatures to verbal. Take any long standing civilisation; it would have a much better, much richer literary tradition than artistic.

An insight, original and all

A trend is always replaced by another. A trend can never, therefore, be taken for tradition

Getting doped, the dope-less way

Step 1 – Wake up late on a Sunday morning, say 11.
Step 2 – Do nothing for the rest of the day, except perhaps blog, eat, watch TV
Step 4 – Call up friend and ask him if he’s coming for a play
Step 3 – Confirm you can still get tickets to play
Step 5 – Spend a few more hours doing zilch in terms of productivity
Step 6 – Go to play
Step 7 – Laugh, cry, curse the bloody old auditorium for their stupidly narrow seats, aisles, faulty air-conditioning
Step 8 – Go with friend to Mocha
Step 9 – Drink loads of Coffee
Step 10 – Come back home
Step 11 – Have a bad ass cold that blocks up your nose, swells up your tongue
Step 12 – Stay awake in bed feeling your tongue slip (physically, not otherwise) into your throat
Step 13 – Wake up with a start for you can’t breathe – your tongue’s blocking the highway
Step 14 – Unable to sleep, switch on the computer and perform maintenance operation, run virus-checks, check obscure e-mail id you created when you were a pimply teenager.
Step 15 – Blog
Step 16 – Write stupid, illogical mail to three blogger friends
Step 17 – Stay awake till 5 in the morning
Step 18 – Come to office at 8:30
Step 19 – Stare sleepily at office computer
Step 20 – Congratulations, you are doped.
