Justice for Priyadarshini

A friend of mine, Rohit Mattoo, points me to a website – ourpriyadarshini.com which is hoping justice will be served for Priyadarshini Mattoo.

Priyadarshini was born July 23, 1970 in Srinagar, Northern India. She was an award winning singer who had traveled internationally to perform. She chose to pursue her law studies at Delhi University. About to complete her degree, her life was cut short.
Priyadarshini was stalked for over a year by a former classmate, during which time Priyadarshini made several complaints to the police. The stalker, the son of a Police Chief (IGP), persisted. He was interested in Priyadarshini romantically, but she rebuked his advances. Finally a case was registered against him, and he was going to face charges.

On January 23, 1996, he was seen entering her home in South Delhi by several witnesses. Hours later her battered body was found – she had been beaten mercilessly, with multiple wounds (her post mortem detailed 19). She had been raped. And, ultimately, she had been strangled to death.

They are also organising a rally in Delhi – Justice for Priyadarshini! Venue: India Gate, New Delhi Time: 4:30 p.m. Date: 23rd July, 2006

Do check the site out, and do what you can.
