Right, this is just what you need
I am much a fan of Flickr. Most of you aren’t. So unless you are in the mind to read through a random take on a subject you don’t like, ignore this post. – There, we’re done with the disclaimers. And have lost half our audience. Am I good or am I good?
As I was saying, I am a fan of Flickr. Been on that little nifty photo-sharing tool for like eons. To wit, 3 long years. Along the way, I’ve seen my photography improve a whale of lot (yup, whale of a lot), made some real good friends, been inspired, been jealous, been happy, been incredibly active.
So, it was with a little bit of trepidation I read of the changes due on Flickr.
But.
But.
Being the geeky cool people they are, the Flickr team’s done a great job on the redesign. First off, the redesigned pages look uber cool and simple. (Aside: While I agree with Kingsley that simplicity is usually boring, here they make a whale of a difference)
Point #1 – The menu system – the old format has been thrown out of the window and a new one put in place – a simple drop down menu structure that makes navigation super easy.
I took to the changes really quickly. And I am usually dumb about these things. So they, Flickr, win, in my book atleast.
Point #2 – Number of photos – Earlier, the first page of your flickr account had just one column of photos. This made the whole page longer than it needed to be and made scrolling difficult and all that. Also, lesser photos per page meant more pages to accommodate all your photos. This new page structure reduces the number of pages on your flickr account, makes photos more accessible and (perhaps this is just me….) more hits on each of your photos.
Point #3 – Footer. Much much better footer. Much much more easy to use. Score 20 on this Flickr folks.
Point #4 – This also coincides with a redesign of Yahoo itself.
Point #5 – Change is good.
Point #6 – They called it the Gamma release. LOL! Too fucking clever. Love it.

There you go, being hypocritical, just like I claimed. Isn’t the new UI more complex than the old UI? You love the new UI, but you say that you love it’s simplicity. You don’t – you love how they’ve made it richer without making it too much more complex.

Perhaps. But they made the menu structure simpler – moved it to the place we expect menus to be in. That’s simplicity in my book

i’m a big fan of the changes myself. glad to see i’m not the only one, because from what i’m reading in the forums and groups, it looks like most people hate it. i think they’re just scared of change.
thanks for stopping by my photostream!

I definitely like the new changes. The interface is much more neat and user-friendly. The only thing I am not really sure about is they way Organizr has been re-vamped. I somehow liked the old look of it.
