Bonus
A bonus post for the day. Would AR Rahman be as successful or as popular a decade ago? Would his music be as (what is the word I am looking for, ah! Yes) relevant as it is now?
My contention, and not taking anything away from his talent, was that he was the right guy at the right time. His kind of music, a confluence of many styles, with a lean towards the western/rhythmic, I think would have had far less takers in the 70s and 80s.

This is like asking would Bradman be a legend if he played One day cricket?
You seem to have missed a major point, Talent is irrespective of time, had Rahman been around in the 70s his style would have been different. Same case with Bradman. And Rahman is no more a Tamil pop guy, he’s the most authentic Hindi film composer for period films.

mm. i think that he was better or more relevant a decade ago then he is now. compare thiruda thiruda or roja with what he is churning out now.
the relevance was then, the acceptance is now
that is the way of the world!
A counter question – how about if RD Burman and A.R.Rehman existed in the same space ?
