Chidambaram and Sirgazhi, a photoset

Sights on the road to Chidambaram

Sunrise over the Muttukadu Backwaters, on ECR The same, different orientation Coconut palms lining the road to Chidambaram (ain’t I obvious?)

A bamboo tree. I have seen bamboos growing tall, but this one was pretty huge, and looked creepy. This is on a bend of the road, but you can see the tops from a bit away. I was spooked for a while till I turned and saw that the tentacles were only part of a bamboo tree Trying out Macro photography. These kind of flowers are hard to miss if you travel anywhere in Tamil Nadu. On top of Kodaikanal, in the dry Vellore area, the fertile Cauvery Basin – they are everywhere. Like Bloggers This one tried to chew my bike’s gear shift off

The Chidambaram Temple
DSCN3526 DSCN3528
A huge corridor/hallway in Chidambaram, called the Natya Sabha or something. 1000 pillars hold it up and make for a great study in symmetry and art Another shot of the Maha Sabha. These pillars are very intriguing for me. Most of them show telltale signs of Vijayanagara architecture, but every so often, is a Chola pillar. And randomly. One section has 1 chola pillars for every 3 vijayanagara. Another section has 1 for every 2 vijayanagara. Either I’m missing something, or there must have been some massive repair work by the Vijayanagara kings

Again, this confusing arrangement of pillars. The ones on the front and the ones immediately behind are of VN style, but the third row is Chola A dormitory, prolly for priests, on the outer fortified wall, with its own little garden and well
