Visual Relief
This photograph was taken at a place called Sithana Vasal, near Trichy. This place is famous for its 3rd Century BC cave temples. The Archaeological Survey of India bans photography inside the cave temple complex, so be satisfied with this panoramic view of the country side.
About the temple, it was carved into rocky hills by a king of the Pandya dynasty, for Jain monks. A meditation chamber still has frescoes of the King and his chief architect on the wall, as well as sculptures of the two leading Jain gurus – Mahavira and one more Thirthankara whose name escapes me.

Hi!
We were in Sittannavasal in the end of November 2004 – and yes, we weren’t allowed to take pics inside the cave temple. But I managed to get a few shots of the paintings from outside.
Also, did Sowreesan (the ASI guy) stand inside the garbagriha and make the noise which reverberates throughout the chamber? And did you try it too – it’s amazing!
My account of the visit is here: http://www.sigamany.com/wordpress/?p=16&page=2

What I managed to actually screw up was a panoramic shot of the countryside – it was too overexposed in the bright sunlight. Nice to see that you got a good one!

What a feast to the eyes. Sometimes it seems India is so vast and diversified that we can never get enough of it.
