Selective Amnesia There was a point to this. But I forgot.

When I walked into the cinema hall, a million adjectives were floating around in my head. All these adjectives were the ones that the media, friends and others have slapped on to the movie.

Adjectives from brilliant, mind blowing to normal, okay types, to confusing, convulated.

Truth be told, the movie has only one adjective. Or rather, a single label. It’s what Tamil Films ought to be.

As both the Geek and Nerd of Tamil films have pointed out, this film isn’t about three disparate individuals and the turn their lives take after an incident. In fact, only one person’s life changes drastically. The other two continue to do what they did.

No story here, cause that will give away the game.
Surya, the actor in the lead, and who has the maximum role weightage, was slated to have given the best performance of his life. I don’t know. He has just begun where he left off at Kakka Kakka and Pithamagan.

Madhavan, now he is someone completely different. He has absolutely lit up the screen. There is a great dynamic energy around him, and he has come through perfectly as the bad boy. Violent in his actions, trigger happy, yet a heart that comes close to being made of gold.
And yes, as Anand pointed out, Kamal Hassan in this role would have been near perfect.

Some take outs of the movie. I see a strong streak of libertarianism in both Surya and Siddharth. (Maybe, a fallout of my recent attempts, no doubt).

I am not explaining where exactly I got that insight, I shall let you dear folks find out. Hint, it is very obvious in Siddharth’s case. Not so in Surya. But there is something, nevertheless.

None of the women in the movie impressed me (except for the character Dilli’s wife). Esha Deol looks like a little doll. Nice dresses, and frisky colours. But thats all. Meera Jasmine has performed a little better than before. But no way is she good.

Now, the piece-de-resistance. Barathiraja. My uncle always used to say that acting is all in the eyes. The eyes have to speak. They spoke. They spoke Barathiraja is a brilliant actor.

Very, very good film. Not great, but getting there.

Seriously, Barathiraja should now forget he was ever a director. Hated
Taj Mahal, and didnt even try seeing Kangalal.
