Economists - The other side
For long, economics, and economists in particular, have had the label of Boring and Dull and “too serious” thrust upon them.
I know some economists, and therefore know that they are anything but that. As can be gained from a perusal of the following…
John Maynard Keynes is known for his famous bookThe General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money. But what is not known is that he wanted to name the book Life. His publishers, though, believed that no book on economics should have a title with fewer than 5 words and so renamed it the way we know it today.
J M Keynes is also credited with the quote In the long run we are all dead. Which was vehemently opposed by the original creator of the quote, Ms P.T Usha. In a press statement after the Olympics, Usha said In the long run, we are all dead, and in the short run, we are out of breath. A spokesperson for the Kerala court of Economic Issues said that a bench comprising three legs and a Lawyer are investigating the claim.
Jean Baptiste Say, the French economist said that Supply creates its own demand He also said that he was not sure why and refused to take responsibility for the consequences. When pushed further for an answer he said Economics is what economists do and left the room in a huff. After which the reporters had a fun time riddling about JB like Say Say, Say something Say. Like say, Says law of saying and other such brainy jokes.
Adolph Wagner, a believer in public expenditure quotes the remark Now a days, we are all socialist. The US Government immediately threw him in jail for revealing a state secret.
Adam Smith said Nothing is more common than scarcity thereby contributing to the English language the device called Oxymoron. Smith also said, expanding on the above line, No complaint is more common than the scarcity of money. instantly gaining the support and undying loyalty of millions of teenagers around the world.
George Bernard Shaw didnt restrict himself to plays and dramas. He is known in certain circles for his amazing economic theory. He once said If all the economists were laid end to end, they’d never reach a conclusion.
